About the Treatment

As we age and spend more time in the sun, we may notice the appearance of brown spots, freckles, sun spots, and unwanted vessels on our skin. However, skin revitalization can help us achieve a more even skin tone and a glowing complexion. This treatment is effective in reducing the appearance of pigment and vessels on various parts of the body, including the face, neck, chest, arms, and hands.

What is it?

The Icon™ MaxG Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) photofacial technology is used for skin revitalization. Unlike lasers, this technology uses multiple wavelengths of light with special filters to treat specific aesthetic conditions. During the treatment, specialized pulses of light are delivered into the skin, targeting brown spots, sun damage, and vessels without damaging the surrounding skin. The energy is absorbed by the targets, which will slowly disappear through the body's natural healing process.

Who is a good candidate?

IPL is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure that uses light to address various skin issues, including sun damage, age spots, redness, and certain vascular lesions. A good candidate for an IPL photofacial typically exhibits certain characteristics and concerns that can be effectively treated with this technology. Here are some criteria that may make someone a good candidate:

  • Sun-Damaged Skin

  • Red or Flushed Skin

  • Mild to Moderate Signs of Aging

  • No Recent Sun Exposure

  • Realistic Expectations

  • No Active Infections or Skin Conditions

  • Not Pregnant or Breastfeeding

How is the treatment done?

On the day of treatment, a gel is applied to the skin to be treated, and eye shields are provided to protect against the light during treatment. The handpiece is guided over the treatment area, and a cooling sensation is felt to make the session comfortable. There may also be a slight rubber-band-like snapping sensation, which disappears almost immediately. After the treatment, post-procedure cream is applied to the skin.

How long is recovery?

There may be a mild sunburn-like sensation and redness or swelling around the treatment site, but this typically resolves in a few days. Sun exposure should be avoided, and sunscreen with SPF 45 or greater should be used at all times during the course of treatment.

How long does it take to see results?

Results will continue to improve over the first 6 weeks after treatment, and three treatment sessions are recommended for desired results.
