About the Procedure
What Is Clitoropexy?
Clitoropexy is an advanced, tissue-preserving surgical technique that reduces the projection or prominence of an elongated or drooping clitoris by lifting and repositioning it into a more anatomically appropriate position.
At Wei Aesthetic Institute in Irvine, Dr. Judy Wei performs individualized clitoropexy for women concerned about an elongated or protruding clitoris, including changes that occur naturally or after hormonal or androgen exposure.
Unlike procedures that remove clitoral tissue, clitoropexy focuses on repositioning and supporting the existing anatomy. This makes it a valuable option for women whose primary concern is clitoral projection or position rather than excess tissue volume.
Who Is a Good Candidate for Clitoropexy?
Clitoropexy may be appropriate for women who:
Have an elongated or protruding clitoris
Have clitoral ptosis (downward displacement of the clitoris)
Have increased clitoral prominence following hormonal or androgen exposure
Want to reduce projection without tissue removal
Are bothered by the appearance of a prominent clitoris
Desire a more balanced, natural vulvar appearance
A detailed examination is necessary to determine whether clitoropexy or another form of clitoral reduction is the best option for you.
Who Is Not a Candidate?
Clitoropexy may not be appropriate for patients who have:
An active genital infection
Untreated medical conditions contributing to clitoral enlargement
Significant tissue enlargement that requires a different reduction technique
Medical conditions that make elective surgery unsafe
Unrealistic expectations about surgical outcomes
Any underlying hormonal or medical cause of clitoral enlargement should be evaluated before surgery.
Benefits of Clitoropexy
For appropriately selected patients, clitoropexy offers several potential advantages:
Reduces visible clitoral projection
Repositions the clitoris into a more natural position
Preserves existing clitoral tissue
Prioritizes the preservation of sensation and function
Can create a more proportionate vulvar appearance
May avoid the need for more extensive tissue-reduction procedures
Modern clitoral surgery has evolved toward conservative, tissue-preserving approaches that recognize the importance of clitoral sensation and sexual function.
How Is Clitoropexy Performed?
After a detailed consultation and examination, Dr. Wei evaluates the clitoris, the surrounding tissue, and the neurovascular structures to determine the most appropriate surgical approach. Every procedure is performed by Dr. Wei herself.
Once the area is numbed, the clitoris is carefully dissected, then elevated and secured in a more anatomically appropriate position. The supporting nerves and blood vessels are preserved, and no tissue is removed. The goal is to reduce projection and prominence while maintaining the integrity of the clitoris and its neurovascular structures.
Clitoropexy is highly individualized. Depending on your anatomy, it may be performed alone or combined with clitoral glans reduction, clitoral hood reduction, or labiaplasty for a balanced overall result.
Clitoropexy Recovery and Results
Swelling, tenderness, and bruising are expected during the early healing period. Temporary changes in sensitivity are also common and typically resolve with time. Plan for a period of reduced physical activity after surgery, and follow all postoperative instructions carefully. That said, we discourage prolonged bed rest to help minimize postoperative complications.
As swelling subsides and the tissue heals, the clitoris gradually settles into its new position. Final results may take several months to fully develop.
You will receive detailed postoperative instructions on activity, hygiene, and sexual activity. In general, we recommend avoiding sexual activity for six weeks after surgery.
How Long Do Results Last?
Clitoropexy is designed to provide long-lasting anatomical repositioning. As with any surgical procedure, natural aging, hormonal changes, and future medical or physical changes may affect the tissue over time.
