About the Procedure
What Is Hymenoplasty?
Hymenoplasty is a surgical procedure that reconstructs the hymen by carefully restoring the remnants of the hymenal tissue. This procedure is most often pursued for cultural, religious, or personal reasons. The goal of hymenoplasty is to recreate the appearance of an intact hymen.
Hymenoplasty is intended for women who have not had vaginal deliveries and is ideally performed on women who have never been pregnant. Once healing is complete, sexual intercourse may result in stretching or tearing of the reconstructed hymen, which can cause bleeding similar to that of an intact hymen.
Who Is a Good Candidate for Hymenoplasty?
You may be a good candidate for hymenoplasty if:
You are 18 years of age or older
You are in good overall health
You have a ruptured hymen
You are seeking hymen reconstruction for cultural, religious, or personal reasons
A confidential consultation with Dr. Wei will determine whether this procedure is appropriate for you.
How Is Hymenoplasty Performed?
Hymenoplasty is performed by Dr. Wei, a board-certified OB/GYN and cosmetic gynecologic surgeon with advanced training in vulvovaginal surgery.
Extremely precise incisions are made in the vaginal tissue and the remaining edges of the hymenal ring. These tissues are then carefully brought together and secured with fine, dissolvable sutures. Dr. Wei utilizes meticulous surgical technique to ensure accurate tissue approximation and optimal healing.
The procedure is performed in-office under local anesthesia and typically takes approximately 60 minutes.
How Long Does Healing Take?
Initial healing occurs over approximately 6 weeks. Dissolvable sutures generally dissolve within 1–2 months, and internal scarring becomes minimal and often nearly undetectable as healing progresses.
What Is the Recovery Like?
Recovery is usually mild and well tolerated.
Light spotting may occur for the first 48–72 hours
Minor discomfort or tenderness is common
Over-the-counter pain medication is typically sufficient
Patients are provided with detailed post-operative instructions to support proper healing and minimize complications.
When Will Results Be Noticeable?
Once healing is complete, the reconstructed hymen functions similarly to an intact hymen. Sexual intercourse after healing may result in stretching or tearing of the hymen and potential bleeding.
How Much Does Hymenoplasty Cost?
The cost of hymenoplasty surgery starts at $6,000, with additional facility and anesthesia fees if applicable.
An accurate price can only be provided after an in-person or virtual consultation. Discounts may be available when combined with other procedures.
Follow-Up and Maintenance
No ongoing maintenance is required. Follow-up visits are scheduled to monitor healing and ensure optimal results. These appointments will be discussed during your preoperative consultation.
