About the Treatment

What is it?

Kybella is a brand name for a medication called deoxycholic acid, which is used to reduce the appearance of submental fullness or a double chin. It works by destroying fat cells in the treated area.

Who is a good candidate? Who is NOT a candidate?

Good candidates for Kybella treatment are adults who have excess fat under the chin and want to improve the appearance of their jawline. Patients should be in good health and have realistic expectations about the results of the treatment.

Patients who have an infection in the treatment area, a bleeding disorder, or a history of severe allergic reactions should not receive Kybella treatment.

What kind of conditions does it treat?

Kybella is primarily used to treat submental fullness or a double chin, but it can also be used to treat other areas of the body where there is excess fat, such as the bra fat.

How is the treatment done?

During the treatment, doctor will inject Kybella into the targeted area using a fine needle or cannula. Multiple injections may be needed to achieve the desired results. The procedure is generally quick and relatively painless. Kybella is typically a 30 minute in-office treatment session.

How long to see results?

Results from Kybella treatment can usually be seen within a few weeks to a month after the treatment. Multiple treatments may be needed to achieve the desired results, and the effects of Kybella are permanent.

Why do the procedure/benefits? How long is recovery? What does it look like? (Bruising, swelling, etc.)

The benefits of Kybella treatment include a more defined jawline and improved appearance of submental fullness. Recovery from Kybella treatment usually involves some swelling, bruising, and tenderness in the treated area. These side effects typically resolve on their own within a few days to a week after the treatment.

How often do you have to follow up/maintenance?

Follow-up treatments may be needed to achieve the desired results, but maintenance treatments are generally not required once the desired results have been achieved.
