SkinPen Microneedling

What is it?

The SkinPen creates thousands of precise micro-injuries or “micro-channels” in the dermis, which stimulates new collagen synthesis without causing scar tissue formation. This technology takes advantage of the skin’s natural healing process. When SkinPen makes microchannels in the skin, the skin naturally produces new collagen and elastin in the treatment areas, leading to a fresher skin appearance.

Who is a good candidate? Who is NOT a candidate?

The SkinPen is safe for all skin types and is safe for all ages, although we recommend the procedure for ages 22 years old or older. It is clinically shown to safely and effectively treat facial acne scars for ages 22 and up.

What kind of conditions does it treat?

The SkinPen by Bellus Medical is the only FDA cleared medical grade microneedling device and treats the following conditions on the face and body:

• Sun damage (sun spots)

• Age and brown spots

• Fine lines and wrinkles

• Facial acne scarring

• Uneven skin tone

• Large pore size

How is the treatment done?

Topical numbing cream is typically applied to the treatment area about 30 minutes prior to the procedure. The actual procedure typically takes 20-30 minutes depending on the size and number of areas treated and the severity of damage on the skin.

How long is recovery? What does it look like? (Bruising, swelling, etc.)

While you may have some redness and swelling (similar to a sunburn) immediately after the procedure, there is usually minimal downtime for the patient. It usually subsides in 1-2 days.

How often do you have to follow up/maintenance?

Every patient is different, but for optimal results we recommend a series of 3 treatments. We will work with you for a customized treatment plan based on your particular skin issue and your goals during our consultation.
